*giggles hysterically*
OK. This? This needed to be posted before I went to work. Because this will likely be the thing that will likely be the best thing that you see all day. Enjoy! --Squeegee "Mama?" Current Mood: amusedCurrent Music: "Bohemian Rhapsody" | | Wednesday, November 18th, 2009 | | 1:59 pm |
Blargh, I am Dead.
Or home sick, anyway. This is the first real sick day I've taken in........*thinks*....well, a while, anyway. At least what I've got is kosher (ie, swine-free). I just needed a day off to let my immune system kick some ass. I'd forgotten how boring sick days can be, though. Irony! --Squeegee "....yeah." Arrrrrr!
Avast! It be that time o' year again, the most piratical day on the calendar, me hearties! Yes, it's "Talk Like A Pirate" Day again!Ta celebrate the occasion, me wench & first mate accompanied me 'pon a trip today! Arr, we went to the park with springs o' green fer the first time t'gether! 'Twas a fine day fer such things, with the sky bright & blue, and a fair wind blowin'. We plundered the bountiful landscape, avast! As it was a fine day without a cloud in the sky, I decided to take Jessi to Greensprings Park -- she'd never been, and I believe the last time I visited, I was still a Jefferson student. It was beautiful, as always, and we wandered around for a while. It was a quite a nice time. After that fine bit o' day, we voyaged ta the shores of Lake Anne, sailin' about the cool waters. A mug o' grog and a fine treasure map capped off the day in a fine piratical manner, avast, arrrr! We also stopped by Lake Anne in Reston, visiting a used book store and having a nice drink. And a fine piratical congratulatory message ta Cap'n Willis, who married his first mate today! YOHO! Good one, Willis! Mazel tov!AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRARRARRYAHARRARRRGAR RRR!!!!! ?--The Dread Pirate Squeegee "The Pirates! Can't Buy Me Love....
....but it CAN buy me Beatles: Rock Band! If you don't know this about me, I am a HUGE fricking Beatles fan. Been one since I was 4 or 5 years old -- which means I've been listening happily to their music for 20 years now (or 80% of my life). This is why I squealed like a 16 year-old Liverpudlian girl when this game was announced, pre-ordered, and have been waiting with baited breath for this day to arrive. And lo, it is good. Nay. It is AWESOME. The graphics are incredible -- trippy as all hell when appropriate, and sometimes just sticking with the music. And the music -- 47 songs to start with, and an album released every month as DLC. I'd gush more, but I'm too giddy with the game. For the record, I got the limited edition set (with Rock Band replicas of Paul's bass and Ringo's drum kit), and the John Lennon guitar replica. All I need to pick up in the future is George's guitar, and I'm set. Was it expensive? Yeah, a bit. Was it worth it. EVERY DAMN PENNY. And now, I'm going to go play some more until I fall asleep, or until my fingers start to ache. Whichever comes second. --Squeegee "Insert your own Beatles quote here -- I'm too busy playing right now." SCIENCE! is AWESOME.
40 years ago, man landed on the moon for the first time. Thinking about it honestly, that fact alone still fills me with awe. Just....wow. That's all, really. It's just plain cool. --Squeegee "One giant leap...." Current Mood: impressedCurrent Music: none | | Monday, July 13th, 2009 | | 7:13 pm |
....And a Little While Later........
So, it's been almost two months since I updated. I'm afraid life simply hasn't been that exciting as of late. >_< Made it through my 26th birthday, but I get no interesting numbers for another few years. Otakon fast approaches -- I am looking forward to that, especially with more GND stuff planned this year. And I'm typing this entry up from a new laptop! (Well, for a given value of "new", at least -- but I also got it for a given value of "FREE", which was rather important as well.) Out of curiosity, how many people are planning on attending TJ's Reunion Day? I know some people were discussing attending, but at the moment, I see (almost) no one I know on the RSVP list. And if no one I know will be there, the tickets really aren't worth the asking price, in my opinion. So....anyone? --Squeegee "Been so long since I updated that I don't even have any pithy quote!" Retro Amusement
Through a series of links in the series of tubes, yesterday I discovered this site. Jessi & I found ourselves hypnotized by images of our youth for an hour or two. Any child of the 80's will likely be highly amused by this, and the junk that we could never whine our parents into buying for us back in the day. ~_^ edit: And even some of the stuff I'd never seen before -- like this ad from MST3K's UHF days! Yummy noise! --Squeegee "Holy crap I HAD that!!" Current Mood: amusedCurrent Music: none | | Monday, May 11th, 2009 | | 10:12 pm |
Two Flavors of AWESOME
So, I never did report on the concert I got to go to a couple of weeks back. ( Reel Big Fish!!! )And then, tonight, Jessi & I went to see the new Star Trek movie (we would've gone this weekend, but Maggie's graduation came first.) ( Trek! )So, yes, two awesome experiences. And I am well content. --Squeegee "Mene sakket ur-saveh." Current Mood: geekyCurrent Music: "Star Trek" soundtrack | | Saturday, April 25th, 2009 | | 11:36 pm |
HOLYSHITRBF!!!
Just saw Reel Big Fish in concert live. Holy CRAP was it awesome! Posting this from my cell, so brief. More tomorrow! Current Music: REEL BIG F***ING FISH! | | Tuesday, March 24th, 2009 | | 8:22 am |
Return!
So we're back in the apartment! Huzzah!! More updates as events warrant (and more actual posting, too. Whether that's good or bad, I leave to your discretion.) --Squeegee "Hey, no more water....just a lot of f***ing boxes....crap." HOLY SHIT WATER!!!!
So the sprinkler system pipes froze and burst in our apartment today. Three inches of water on the floor. Fun times. Jessi & I are OK. I was running errands when it happened, and my wife (while freaking out, by her own account) managed to get most of the important stuff on top of the tables/outside. I got home immediately after (no cops saw me doing 80+ mph on Rt. 7, thankfully) and helped with the panicking and the exodus. We're currently staying with my parents for the next few weeks, while the management company repairs our place. Thank God for renters' insurance/the fact that this wasn't our fault. Long day, but we keep going on. (Apparently, exhaustion makes me philosophical. Who knew?) --Squeegee "Water, water everywhere....goddammit." Happy New Year!
Another year, and still here. Make of that what you will. *gryn* Good News: That's SIR Terry Pratchett. Good on him!!! Bad News (for comic book fans, anyway): Remember "One More Day"? The Spider-Man story where Peter Parker made a deal with the devil to erase his marriage? The sheer brain-hurting stupidity? Well, it's apparently happened in the newspaper strip, too. *sigh* Ah, well. Wonder how the average comic reader (approx. age: 60+) will react to hearing of Spidey's satanic shenanigans. Heh. --Squeegee "....the hell is 'Auld Lang Syne', anyway?" Current Mood: lazyCurrent Music: Jessi playing "Super Mario RPG" behind me | | Sunday, December 14th, 2008 | | 9:06 am |

Long Time
So, I haven't updated in a month and a half. *shrug* The Slack is strong with me? Anyway. I come to urge you tonight. Tomorrow? Vote. Please. Even if your political views are diametrically opposed to mine (not a strong possibility if you're reading my LJ, but still), please, get out there and vote. It's a responsibility, it's a right, and it's a privilege. More than that, it's important. So please. Do it. Or you'll make Mr. Bigler cry. And no one wants that. Do you? --Squeegee "I want 8000 words. Printable words, Spider." Current Mood: somewhat patrioticCurrent Music: none | | Friday, September 19th, 2008 | | 10:33 pm |
Arr!
Arr. It been some time -- a pair o' months -- since I last been updatin' this log. And as it be "Talk Like A Pirate Day", I might as well be usin' the occasion. Translation: 2 months? I oughta update this a bit more regularly. But I'm lazy.So Jessi & I, after much searchin', found us a port to settle in. It be a fine port o' call, if a bit cozy. But as we just be startin' out in our life o' pirating, it be all right. Arr. It be close to our mateys, and our sources o' plunder! So aye, we be expectin' boardin' crews at their leisure, yaharr! Translation: We got an apartment, woo! It's small, but nice. And it's in NoVA, close to work, which is good. If people wish to visit, just let us know.Yaharr, and we be travelin' across the seven seas to ports o' call soon. We be goin' hither and yon, collectin' loot from those whom we meet. But storms may be puttin' a damper on it, but we sail on! Translation: We've got 3 cons in the next 4 weekends. We're looking forward to it, but that's a lot of work, especially since we move into the apartment then as well. God help us (especially me, since I'm doing the driving.)Arrrr, and fine felicitations ta Cap'n Willis, who be acquirin' a first mate this day. Yarrr! Translation: And congrats to David Willis, creator of Shortpacked! & It's Walky, who successfully proposed to his girlfriend last night. Author, Author!
So I got to go meet Naomi Novik, author of the Temeraire novels, last night. For those who are unaware, the books take the Napoleonic Wars, and add in dragons. Anything with dragons, I tend to be favorable towards anyway, and the fact that the books would be awesome without dragons just adds to their excellence. But anyway. I got to the Borders where the signing was to be held early, having come straight from work. I was lucky enough to be the first in line, which is always good. There was an hour or two to kill before the event started, but....c'mon. Me, in a bookstore. I wonder whether I shall ever be able to find some way to pass the time. ~_^ Anyway, Ms. Novik did a reading for us (a fairly good size crowd, maybe 50 people or so), and it wasn't an excerpt. As she put it, she figured we all either were buying or had bought the newest book, and so why should she read something we were either about to or already had read? So instead, she did a new short story, set in Roman times, about how the first dragon was tamed (by Marcus Antony, the drunken sot). It was damn funny, much lighter than the Temeraire novels tend towards, but still a lot of fun. Apparently, it will be published in a short story collection simply entitled "Dragons", sometime soonish. Oddly enough, she reminded me of Nali somehow. I think it was in the voice -- very similar sound, in some ways. In any case, Ms. Novik took questions, including a couple of mine. Apparently, we will see America at some point (her agent has supposedly been asking about that constantly), and she's hoping to write 9 books in total, though there is a definite ending point to the series. Unfortunately, when I asked my other question as to the first name of my favorite character (who is only ever referred to as "Berkeley"), she admitted that she didn't know off the top of her head, and I should check the wiki. I did -- nothing. So since there's no official name, I've decided that in my personal canon, his name is henceforth "Matthew Berkeley". *gryn* No reason at all for that, no.... And then I got my books signed. She was very nice, talked for a moment or two, and even did a stick figure sketch of Berkeley and his dragon, Maximus, for me. All in all, a good evening. So, yeah. If you haven't picked up the books yet, I highly recommend them. And I do enjoy meeting authors -- especially when they're cool people, too. --Squeegee "You ate the lion?! ......You ate the lion!" -- Marc Antony, to his newly-hatched and rather hungry dragon (whose name slips my mind at the moment -- something Latin, starting with "Vi") Current Mood: chipperCurrent Music: none | | Thursday, June 19th, 2008 | | 9:10 pm |
2008 Movie Season -- The Incredible Hulk
Highly enjoyable, I'd say. Much smashing to be had, and even more fun if you've read the comics. ( More Details )To sum up: Not quite as good as Iron Man, but still eminently worth $9 to see it in the theaters. Current Summer Movie Rankings: 1) Iron Man 2) Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (tie) 2) The Incredible Hulk (tie) 4) Speed Racer --Squeegee "Hulk SMASH!!!"
